DENVER (KDVR) — Denver International Airport is the third-busiest airport in the world, with the holiday season being the most active time of year. Travel experts tell FOX31, the price of gas is decreasing which impacts jet fuel, but an increase in travelers who may have postponed trips during the pandemic could drive up fares.

One passenger tells FOX31, summer travel has been busy causing long lines.

“We almost missed the flight,” he said.

AAA of Colorado spokesperson Skyler McKinley tells FOX31, now is the time to book holiday travel because airports will be even busier in the coming months.

“I wouldn’t wait longer than mid-September,” McKinley said.

But student Hannah Turian, 20, did a little more than that after returning home for the popular holiday destination to find her luggage had an unsuspecting addition – a large toad.

She believes the stowaway amphibian hopped into one of her shoes before she packed to travel more than 8000 kilometers from Bangkok back home to Cardiff, UK.

The shocked young woman found the creature peering back at her from among her clothes before quickly calling her family to help catch it.

Footage she posted online shows the animal hidden in her clothes as she shrieks with fright before the animal went hopping around her bathroom floor.

PHOENIX — Code Talker Thomas H. Begay and others commemorated Navajo Code Talkers Day on Sunday morning in Phoenix, honoring their contributions that have been credited with helping the United States win World War II.

At a memorial located by the Wesley Bolin Plaza, Begay, one of the last three Code Talkers alive, said the holiday is to remember those that didn’t return from their service.

“We honor today to remember those code talkers that never came home,” Thomas H. Begay said. “During the World War II, the Navajos had developed the best code that was never broken by the enemy of the United States of America.

“It was the hardest thing to learn, but we were able to develop a code that cannot be broken by the enemy.”
